Liver cake

Ingredients

Method

Mix together to form a batter. Spread on a greased sheet or cake pan. Bake at 180 degC for approx 20 mins or until brown. Cut into squares. Can be frozen.


Home-baked dog biscuits

Ingredients

Method

In large bowl combine flour, wheat, dried milk, oats and parsley. In small bowl combine yeast with warm water till it dissolves and then add stock. Stir liquid into dry mixture. Mix with hands (dough will be very stiff) adding a little water or stock if needed. Roll dough on floured board to 1/4 inch (6 mm) thickness. Cut into squares. Beat egg and milk and brush on biscuits as a glaze. Bake on baking tray in a moderate oven for 45 mins, then turn off oven and leave to dry overnight (don't keep opening oven). Makes 6-7 dozen biscuits. Store in airtight container.


Meaty dog biscuits

Method

Put flour in basin and rub in the mince. Mix to a stiff dough with water. Roll out and put on an oven tray. Cut into squares and bake in a slow oven till dry. (Can add a tbspn of codliver oil if biscuits are for a puppy)


Feeding a young Labrador

From 10-16 weeks

3 meals a day. Do not change abruptly from your present feeding regime to the one given here. Just change a little each day or the dog might get a stomach upset.

Breakfast

1 cup of any complete dry dog food for pups , moistened with a little warm water plus 1 tbsp (tablespoon) of yoghurt or cottage cheese

Lunch

250 gms good quality mince with a quarter tsp (teaspoon) of calcium carbonate mixed through it

Supper

Same as breakfast plus 50 mgm Vit C

Gradually increase the above amounts at 10 weeks till at 16 weeks pup is getting 1¼ cups of dried dog food per meal and similarly, gradually increase mince to 500 gms per day

From 16 weeks to 6 months

Two meals a day
Breakfast

1- 1½ cups of complete dog food, depending how fat the pup is, mixed with warm water and /or a little milk plus 50 mgm Vit C plus a tbspn of yoghurt or cream cheese

Supper

500gm minced steak or other quality meat into which is mixed ½ a tsp of calcium carbonate OR of DCP (Di-calcium phosphate) plus ½ to ¾ cup of complete dog food plus 50 mgm Vit C

From 6 months onward

1 meal a day, approx 2 cups of dried dog food and 500 gm meat, plus 50-100 mgm of Vitamin C, unless pup is very active or too thin in which case continue with 2 meals a day. Some dogs do best on two meals/day for life

Remember to have clean fresh water available at all times
